It's Tuesday

The automobile saga continues... Let me bring you up to date. So, being home for an expected 4 months, I needed a vehicle to get around. For those of you that have never been to Southern California, be advised that it is nearly impossible to get around without a car. It's disgusting, but it's true.

My plan was to rent a car until I figured out something better. At $500 a month, this would come to $2000 for the summer. Luckily, my Dad's girlfriend's son had an extra truck laying around that he was willing to provide me for the summer. I was very excited until I realized that the truck had the following specs:

  • 1991 Red Toyota Pickup (with one of those caravan covers on the back)
  • No air conditioning (in 90-110 degree heat)
  • No radio
  • Stick shift (with a bad habit of popping out of gear mid-journey)
  • Suspension that can barely handle a pothole.
  • 210,000 miles.
  • A rear view mirror that refuses to stay in place
  • A leak in the brake fluid line
  • An electronic engine failure
  • An oil leak
  • A license plate holder that states "dont sweat the petty things...just pet the sweaty things"
  • Betty Boop in a bikini floor mats
  • Yosemite Sam mud flaps

After two weeks of driving the thing, a mechanic has deemed it unsafe to drive for two reasons:

  1. I might melt to death
  2. The car could spontaneously combust at any given moment

So, for the rest of the summer, its back to a rent-a-car, but don't count on tales of me cruising in my rented ferrari. It's going to be a nissan sentra. And is it going to suck only marginally less than the truck. Ah, well.

Tonight, Groundlings #3. My assignment was to prepare a 1-minute space work presentation. It is supposed to be a mundane activity, so I chose doing the laundry. I am going to have to practice this afternoon at work. Embarass-ing! Here is my outline:

Pick up laundry basket

Hobble awkwardly to door

Place basket under one arm

Swing door open & flip on light

Hobble in and place laundry basket on dryer.

Open washer.

Open dryer

Pull wet clothes heavily out of washer and throw into dryer (picking up wet straggly pieces.)

Clear dryer screen and toss lint

Close dryer door

Turn on dryer.

Take top off detergent and measure out one cup.

Pour detergent into washer.

Replace cap and store bottle.

Close washer.

Set and turn on washer

Pick up empty basket.

Open door.

Turn off light.

Pull door closed behind you.

This is the most boring post yet. Stay tuned for friend profiles, that will spice things up a bit!
